"Doctors are men who prescribe medicines of which they know little, to cure diseases of which they know less, in human beings of whom they know nothing." Voltaire (Voltaire was having a bad day)
"If we didn't kill the tumor, we killed the patient." Wm Maloney on the early days of chemotherapy. (Doc, tell us your other strong feelings.
In the midst of the dismal views above come those special times (they have actually told me about them) when the docs can call a patient and say, "I have news...good news...congratulations, you are in a full remission."
Dr. Siddharth Mukherjee, author of, "The Emporah of all Maladies, a biography of Cancer."
This is really a great book that will change how you look at cancer. For me, it has been these great highs and lows of realism. With Rose, while I was with her, she never got one of those encouraging calls--From my perspective, I should add. Without trying to make it more than it was, I will have to say that Rose could make lemonade out of lemons more than any single person I've ever known. In fact, hands down, Rose was the most stoic human being I've ever known. Well, she was Rose.
