The marketing of cancer awareness has been everywhere. The NYT had this big article on the Susan B Komen organization. How it has become a jugganalt in raising Money, defining the approach to cancer research. The article was mostly positive. But, where the rubber hits the road, however, resides in the fact that when the person gets the dreaded diagnosis, it becomes extremely personal.
As one who has been profoundly affected by my involvement with Rose and her treatment and now with my good friend, I am grateful for all the marketing. The run/walk for the cure. The three days of walking/camping out. The NFL, the celebrity advertising, whatever it is. The pink, the ribbons, the t-shirts, can't do anything but help from my perspective. We're looking for a cure. We want those like Rose and my friend to live out their lives in peaceful bliss moving toward the sunset.
